LI’VERWORT. n. s. [liver and wort.]A plant.

That sort of liverwort which is used to cure the bite of
mad dogs, grows on commons, and open heaths, where the
grass is shot, on declivities, and on the sides of pits. This
spreads on the surface of the ground, and, when in perfec
tion, is of an ash colour; but, as it grows old, it alters,
and becomes of a dark colour.
